Rakesh Bapat changed his name to Raqesh Vashisht but everything else about him remains unchanged, his dimpled smile, his soft-spoken manner and his charm that has girls swooning over him. His father is a navy captain and his mother is a teacher. It is known that Rakesh changed his surname to Vashisht due to career problem. Raqesh has great interest in painting, horse riding, playing tennis, sculpting, singing, playing the flute and sitar.

Raqesh made his screen debut together with Himanshu Malik in Anubhav Sinha's Tum Bin in 2001. After the success of Tum Bin, Anubhav Sinha again cast him as a solo lead in Kuchh Dil Ne Kaha opposite Raima Sen, which bombed at the box office. After that he starred in a few average films like Dil Vil Pyar Vyar in 2002 and Koi Mere Dil Mein Hai in 2005, but none of these films clicked. Raqesh failed to make a mark at the box-office and decided to turn to television. Raqesh has also done ads for Colgate, Wrigley's chewing gum, SSI-Education and Lux, Fiama di wills with Deepika Padukone, etc.

Raqesh made his debut in the Zee serial, Saat Phere. With his cute looks and talent, Raqesh earned instant recognition on the small screen within a short span of time. He chose to leave and sacrifice his time in the daily serial Saat Phere, due to a Hollywood movie. He has played the role of Anuj in the NDTV Imagine show Ek Packet Umeed. He depicted the role of an MBA graduate who helps run Umeed Bhavan and is in love with Sujata (role played by Rupali Ganguly) who is the daughter of the head of Umeed Bhavan. Raqesh also played the role of Karan Mehra in Simply Sapne as the main actor replaced by Gautam Rode. Shlok is the character he played in Seven (TV series) on Sony Entertainment Television. The show was produced under the banner of Yash Raj Television. He is recently seen as male protagonist Aditya in the Star Plus show Maryada: Lekin Kab Tak?.
Raqesh is all set to play the role of the antagonist in A New Love Iisshstory written by Vipul K Rawal of Iqbal (film) fame and directed by John Matthew Matthan which is set to release in early 2011.

Dekha Ek Khwaab Sony TV serial coming to an end – Rose Audio Visual Pvt. Ltd’s Dekha Ek Khwaab on Sony TV has been in the news for a while now as it buzzes that it all set to come to an end.

Sony Entertainment Television Asia’s primetime drama ‘Dekha Ek Khwaab’ is ready to go off air in August, according to reports today. Sources buzz that ‘Dekha Ek Khwaab’ will be wrapped up on Thursday 2nd August, to make way for ‘Love Marriage Ya Arranged Marriage’ – due to start on Monday 5th August.

The official website reports that Manyata (Priyal Gor) and Udayveer (Ashish Kapoor) will finally be together after a lot of misunderstandings. India's biggest traffic awareness campaign "[i follow]" started in Surat

Apart from crime, the city police believe that traffic is one of the biggest problems and all the denizens have to face it. "Surat is already known as a clean and green city and now police are trying to turn it into most traffic sensible city. To educate people about traffic rules and encourage them to follow the campaign has been designed in citizen-friendly manner," police said.

Campaign will focus on common rules related to helmet, no-parking zones, driving on wrong side, over speeding and traffic signal. Police believe that majority of the problems take place due to not following these simple rules.

Among the events are photography competition, painting contest for school students, cycle rally, marathon, concept designing for fine arts and engineering students, graffiti wall painting and short film making.

School students will offer wrist bands with message of 'I Follow' to traffic rule followers at important locations in the city. Street plays will also be staged by theatre groups of.

A song is being prepared with the theme 'I Follow' by poet Mukul Choksi and musician Mehul Surti. "We are working on reducing the traffic problems being created by auto-rickshaws. The plans will be introduced soon once it is ready to be launched," said Rakesh Asthana, city police commissioner.

Project “ i follow ” is a collective effort which was put on the table when Drashtikon – Surat Photography Artisans collaborated with Commissioner of Police and Surat Traffic Police earlier this year for celebrating “Traffic Awareness Week”.

“ i follow ” is the extended chapter of the same, where DRASHTIKON - Surat Photography Artisans, Traffic Educational Trust, active NGO known by Youngistan & Radio Mirchi 98.3 FM Surat, came together along with commissioner office and Surat traffic police, they united to produce similar and biggest ever effort to spread the flair of awareness among people of one of the fastest growing country of India.
