Arshad Warsi has already tasted success with sequels of ‘Dhamaal’, ‘Lage Raho Munnabahi’ and ‘Golmaal’ and he is all set now for yet another one in the sequel of his hit movie ‘Ishqiya’.
“Finally, it is decided that the sequel of Ishqiya is being made. I’m quite happy about that. Ishqiya is way tougher than Dhamaal or Golmaal because that’s a character that speaks in a different dialect,” Arshad said in an interview.
“It’s completely somebody else. I’ve not played such a character before. So speaking in that language, behaving that way, body language, colour and attitude - everything is very different. So, it’s exciting and a lot of fun,” he added.
Ishqiya received critical reviews nationwide and also bagged four National Awards. Released in January 2010, the film portrayed Arshad in the difficult and challenging role of rusty and hot-blooded Babban. The film also starred Vidya Balan and Naseeruddin Shah, was directed by Abhishek Chaubey and was produced by Vishal Bhardwaj.
However, after being a part of so many sequels, Warsi does admit that he does not really enjoy doing sequels so much now.
“I feel I’m stuck with the sequels. New things are better. Sequels are big risks. The expectations are way high because you have already put a benchmark for yourself, now you are competing with yourself and at the same time, you can’t overdo. You have to still be in the same zone and still make people like it,” said Arshad.
“For me, I don’t like doing sequels, I like doing different things. It’s like eating the same food everyday. It’s monotonous for me,” he added.
However, looking at the success of all his sequels, we feel that Arshad and sequels blend in successfully well!!
